Having your own tools makes DIY easier!!

When you are in full renovation mode and/or you are DIY anything, you need tools to complete the projects. As most of you know, I tend to borrow most of my tools from my Dad. I have some, but not many. With our basement renovation in full swing, we’ve been noticing that we’ve been borrowing more tools than usual. We’re quite lucky that my Dad doesn’t mind, however having your own tools on-hand sure makes renovating/DIY easier.

Having your own tools makes DIY easier!

Just the other day, we bought a door and we needed a hole saw to drill a hole to insert the door handle. We don’t own a hole saw, but my Dad does. So we decided to start attaching the door to the frame and we would go see my Dad to borrow the hole saw when we were at that stage. Once we attached the hinges to the door and frame, we headed to my parents’ house. My parents don’t live very far, one town over. However, sometimes, it’s more of a hassle to stop what you are doing to get in the car to go and come back. But, don’t get me wrong, I’m super grateful that he lends me stuff. Just that it’s nice to have your own things and be able to work on what you want, when you want.. without having to stop halfway through. You know what I mean?

As Sébastien and I were going through the tools we will need for the basement, one of the most important things was a cordless drill. The space we are working in doesn’t have electricity yet, and we will need a drill to attach our walls. So we headed to Build.com to check out what they had for cordless drills.

They have a huge selection of cordless drills, however we didn’t know which one we should get. We saw a button at the top of their site that offered Live Expert Help, so we tried it out. We hardly had to wait until someone came to our rescue. We explained to the Expert that we were looking for a cordless drill and the type of work we will be doing with it. He was really helpful and knowledgeable. He recommended the DEWALT DC970K-2 18V 1/2″ Compact Drill Driver Kit, so we went with that. He also pointed out that on each product page, there are different sections with PDF instructions, installation videos, Q&A, reviews, and product specialist contact information help. They really want to make sure you’re project goes as smoothly as possible! Love that! P.S. While I was on their site, I noticed that they have a YouTube Channel! You must check that out too! There’s a BUNCH of How to’s Videos!

We also picked up our dream tool, a DEWALT DW682K Plate Joiner Kit. We’ve been wanting a plate joiner forever! It will come in so handy when we build the work surface for your office/craft room. We also want to build a shelving unit and a table. Let’s just say that it’s going to get used a lot.

I'm sure just having these awesome tools at the ready would bring about tons of new project plans! However, for me, I'd have to add that having these tools would also mean hiding them from my hubby if I'd ever want to find them again :-)

This is such a common problem at our house. Just the other day I was talking about putting a cat door on the basement door to hide the litter better. But my problem was we had no tools at all so I had to ask my dad which takes a bit as he doesn't live close. I love having the option of ordering online as I don't drive so it is a nice way to surprise hubby and have it show up in the mail for him. Thanks for sharing:)
