Get your prescriptions when you need them

Were you and/or your family members sick during the holidays? Seems like so many people had terrible colds. My entire family was sick with a nasty cold. Emanuelle had a very high fever and cough just before school was out for the holidays. She ended up missing the last three days of school and even her Christmas Show. It broke her heart to miss out, she was so looking forward to performing for everyone to see. I stayed home with her that night while Sébastien went with Gabrielle (she was in the show too).

Emanuelle was getting worse each day, fever wouldn’t break, she would sleep all day, and she didn’t eat for days. We brought her to the doctor’s on the 19th and ended up she was at the beginning stages of pneumonia.  Every single time she gets a cold, it goes right to her lungs. She’s had pneumonia a couple of times already. The doctor immediately prescribed medication (antibiotics and renewed her pumps) and we headed to the pharmacy to get the prescriptions filled.

Emanuelle was sleeping in the car when we got to the pharmacy, so Sébastien stayed in the car with the girls while I went inside to get the prescriptions. As I mentioned previously, a lot of people in my area were sick, so much so that the clinics were filled up by 9am. So when I arrived at the pharmacy, I wasn’t alone. The place was FULL. It took over 40 minutes for me to get Emanuelle’s prescriptions. As I was at the counter paying, Gabrielle walked up to me in a panic. She was wondering where I was the entire time, I explained that I was there the whole time waiting. Ends up Emanuelle woke up and needed to go the bathroom, so Sébastien asked Gabrielle to come in the pharmacy to let me know that he was going home and coming right back. Gabrielle was worried that something had happened to me. Poor thing.

The following Monday (Dec. 22nd) I needed to go back to the pharmacy to get my monthly prescriptions filled. I knew that my chances of getting my prescriptions quickly was unlikely. So instead of heading to the pharmacy right away and having to wait for my prescriptions, I logged onto TELUS Pharma Space with my cellphone and ordered my prescriptions that way. If you have never heard of it before, it’s a time saver!! Basically, you get your very own access code through your pharmacy by asking your pharmacist for your Pharma Space card/number, and what that info, you can log in (via your mobile device or computer) and access your account to order your prescriptions. Once ordered, your prescriptions are ready for pick up at your pharmacy within about 3 hours. My pharmacy has confirmed that it takes them only an hour to fill online orders through TELUS Pharma Space.

A large network of pharmacies have come up with a solution developed by TELUS Health, named Pharma Space (Espace Pharma) which allows you to:

• Check the prescription drugs in your pharmacy file and their dosage;
• Ask for prescription renewals and coordinate their delivery;
• Manage the prescriptions of your family and of those you take care of.
• Pharma Space is available at these pharmacies under various names : Brunet (Ma Santé), Loblaws (Your Health Matters Here), Pharmaprix (Mon dossier pharma), Proxim (Proxisanté), and Uniprix (Unisanté).
• It is absolutely free. All you have to do is talk to your pharmacist.

Now you can’t tell me that isn’t a time saver? Now you can get your prescriptions when you need them, without all the waiting.

P.S. I’m happy to report that Emanuelle is doing a lot better. Sébastien and I both got colds for Christmas, not very cool gifts, but we are almost 100% cold free. YAY!
