Quick and Easy Vintage Nightstand Makeover – Vibrant New Look!
Learn how to give a vintage nightstand a new look with paint.
About 15 years ago I picked up the most unique three drawer nightstand ever. It belonged to my great-grand-mother.
I remember seeing it in her bedroom years ago, however it wasn’t a nightstand at that time, it was actually part of a vanity.
I’m not sure why it was removed from the vanity and where the other side went, but I’m happy to at least have part of it.
I love its details and rounded corners.
It was white when I got it. There were so many layers of paint to remove. I worked really hard to remove all the paint from it.
After I had removed the paint, I varnished it and used it as an entry table in our first apartment.
When Sébastien and I moved from our apartment to our house, we placed it in the basement and it stayed there….. that’s until I did this to it:
Isn’t it AWESOME?! I’m in LOVE with the color!!
Before I get into the details of the transformation, let me explain why I took it out of the basement.
Upcycle old furniture to give it new life
Sébastien and I each had an IKEA NORESUND nightstand by our bed.
Mine had a few things on it like a lamp, clock, a couple of books and that’s pretty much it. Sébastien, on the other hand, had more things on his… mostly a whole lot of books.
Since the nightstand doesn’t have any drawers, all you see is a pile of books on the nightstand and on the floor underneath it.
He’s been asking for a nightstand with drawers for a while now and we spent all summer looking for one in yard sales.. with no luck.
While we were cleaning up the basement a little while ago (getting ready for the office / craft room renovation), I came across the old side table.
As soon as I saw it, I knew it would be PERFECT next to Sébastien’s side of the bed.
Of course there was a big DUH moment… why didn’t I think about it before?!
So we brought it upstairs.
I knew I wanted to paint it, I just wasn’t sure what color to paint it.
I went through my BEHR MARQUEE paint samples and found the most beautiful color ever: Little Theater!!

Once I had the paint, it didn’t take me long to tackle this little project.

I started off by removing the hardware (a knob was already missing).
I lightly sanded the entire piece.
Once it was sanded, I cleaned off the dust and started painting the nightstand in BEHR MARQUEE Interior Matte – Little Theater.
As soon as I applied the first brush stroke, I knew I had chosen the perfect color for the side table!
Once the entire piece was painted I added beautiful glass knobs.
And voilà, here’s Sébastien beautiful bedside table aka nightstand!

I’m loving it so much!! I’m so happy we brought it up from the basement and gave it life again!
Can you believe it has been in the basement since we moved in 8 years ago?!
It seriously brings a smile to my face each time I walk into my bedroom. Such a beautiful piece!

I love it! Of course I would, its purple, but I love the lines, the glass knobs, the whole thing! Most of the rooms in my house are painted purple, but the roomie loves wood so I don’t have many painted furniture pieces. Well, I like wood too, one of the few pieces I have is actually painted brown to try and cover the damage the cats did to it.
