Capture the Moment – Emanuelle’s Favorite Things #CanonL

I take A LOT of photos. If you were to check my 16GB SD card that’s in my camera right now, you’d see that it’s full. Every single time that I take out my camera I usually shoot between 200-300 photos. I’m not kidding! I’m kinda of a photography addict. But the thing is…. if you were to look at my SD card you’d be disappointed with me.. heck, I’m disappointed with myself. Why? Because about 85% of the photos are not of my family, but of my crafts, DIY projects, etc… OUPS!

Before having my blog, I always had my camera with me for every single family gathering, family time, vacation, outings, etc… Now that I have my blog, I always have my camera out, but mostly to work. I do take it out during family things, but I just don’t snap as much.

I don’t like that I’m not capturing those special family moments and I’ve decided to do something about it. I got a new lens! I know have a Canon EF 135mm f/2.0L USM telephoto lens. This lens is PERFECT to capture candid shots of my family and of course portraits too! I say candid photos, because of the 135mm focal length I can stand back to take photos without anyone knowing. However, this is something I will need to work on, I find myself loving to be close when taking photo! This lens is FABULOUS for close up details too!

With my new lens aka best friend, I decided to capture photos of Emanuelle’s favorite things. Great idea, right? It’s something that I want to do at least twice a year. I’m sure years from now, Emanuelle and I will love going through all her favorite things photos. It will be Emanuelle’s favorite things documentary.

Emanuelle’s Favorite Things – Winter 2015

Have fun, be goofy!

Emanuelle LOVES playing video games. I especially LOVE that she often plays with her little tongue sticking out of her mouth. Oh so cute! I also love that she loves to be goofy, especially when she notices me taking photos of her.

Emanuelle's Favorite Things - Socks over her pants! Socks over pants is cool!

Emanuelle loves to pull her socks over her pants. She says that she pulls them up like that so that her socks don’t slide down. I think she’s a trend starter. :)

Die hard broomball fan. Broomball is a winter sport that is played on ice. Broomball equipment includes a broomball stick, ball, and special shoes to run on the ice.

Emanuelle is a die hard broomball fan. I play in a league every Friday night and I also play in outdoor tournaments during the winter. When I play outdoors, she’ll stand on the bench with my team and cheer us on, she even keeps score! She can’t wait to be old enough to play! Broomball is a winter sport that is played on ice. Reading books is fun!

Emanuelle loves books. I love that she doesn’t read yet, but she loves to “read” me stories anyways. She has such a fun imagination.

Child shoveling snow.

Emanuelle loves to shovel snow. After a snowfall, she’ll go outside and shovel the driveway. Obviously, she doesn’t shovel it all, but I love that she does it to help us out. She even uses the big scoop shovel when there’s a lot of snow. Oh and she also loves to clean snow off the cars. The other day she cleaned off the snow off our van and then told me to call Sébastien at work and tell him the he doesn’t need to clean off his car when he finishes work, she’ll clean it off for him when he gets home. HAHA I’m happy that he decided to clean off the snow off his car anyways. hehe

Emanuelle LOVES being playing outside. She can spend hours playing in the snow. She loves to build forts and make paths in the snow leading to different parts of our property. Building snowmen is also one of her favorite things, however, it’s been so cold here lately that the snow doesn’t stick, so no snowmen.

What do you think of my photos? I think I did a great job of documenting Emanuelle’s favorite things. FYI, I did not edit the photos at all (except re-sizing them for web and adding my watermark). Would you believe that I had my Canon EOS Rebel SL1 set to automatic? Yep! The camera and this AMAZING lens takes FABULOUS photos even in automatic! Canon L-Series lenses are renowned for astounding quality, breakthrough technology and high performance design. Can you imagine how even more stunning the photos would be in manual?! I need to learn manual! But, I’ll start by being proud of myself for filling my SD card with photos of Emanuelle and not of my crafts and DIY projects!

Next time, I will share with you Gabrielle’s Favorite Things! Hopefully some of the photos will be in manual! :) In the meantime, you can see more photos here: capture the moment birthday photography.

I’d LOVE to know which of the photos I took is your favorite? Or perhaps you have favorites?

Have a SUPER day!

  1. I love the socks over the pants and the tongue one, I do that still at 61!

You’d probably enjoy taking pictures of the trees starting to bud here in Texas, but I doubt you could easily find a broomball team around here!

  2. Beautiful pictures! I am very similar in that I used to take tons of pictures of my kids, now much of my photography tends to do with my blog. This looks like a beautiful lens.

  3. Amazing pics! The colours are stunning and they pop right out of the page! Great job on capturing Emanuelle’s favourite things! Her personality really shines through!

  4. Not only is she super darling, I love that you are capturing these moments. As a mama I always think “Oh, I’ll remember that” but then you get busy and life happens and you don’t remember all those little details. Bravo for capturing them!

  5. Great photos!!!!! LOVE. I just bought a Canon camera (as a Christmas present to myself LOL) and have been slowly learning how to move off of automatic mode. I did automatic for 3 years, and now I’m taking the plunge for manual mode. YouTube has been my friend. haha. For real. I just search Canon tutorials on YouTube and it has taught me a TON.

I hope that helps. Not that you need it. Your photos are divine xoxoxoxoxoxoxo
