Maple Cafe au Lait – Delicious Comfort Drink
With the cold weather starting, it’s time to start making comfort drinks to keep us warm. This Maple Cafe au Lait is delicious and has the perfect touch of maple syrup.

I started making this warm drink a few years ago.
It’s my go to recipe during the fall and the winter.
I love that it’s warm, soothing, and has maple syrup in it.
Maple syrup just makes everything better, right? I just love everything that is made with maple syrup, like this amazing Maple Syrup Cake Crumble!
The Difference Between Latte and Cafe au Lait
For the longest time I would call the drink a Maple Latte.
My sister explained to me that there’s a difference between a cafe latte and a cafe au lait. My drink is not a latte but in fact a cafe au lait.
First of all, different regions have different names for the same drink. (A little bit like here we play soccer, but in other countries it’s called football.)
Now I won’t go into this aspect, because I think I will just get more confused about how to name my drink. hehe You can read more on the topic here: Difference between latte and cafe au lait.
Latte is made using espresso and cafe au lait is made using strong coffee.

Maple Cafe au Lait
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup Coffee
- 3/4 cup Milk
- 2 tbsp Maple Syrup
- Maple Sugar or Maple Flakes (Optional) – to garnish
- Cinnamon (Optional) – to garnish
Special equipment
- Coffee maker or Keurig (I use a Keurig)
- Milk Frother

Instructions:
Step 1: Pour ¾ cup of milk in a mason jar and warm it in the microwave WITHOUT the lid.
When the milk is warm enough, I use my frother to make it frothy.
Another option if you do not have a frother, is to close the mason jar with a lid and shake it until it froths. (I used this method for years.)

Step 2: Pour ¾ cup of hot coffee into a cup. (I use my Keurig to make the coffee and I use the tea setting for this recipe.)
Step 3: Put two tablespoons of maple syrup in the bottom of your cup. Please note: you can add or reduce the amount of maple syrup based on your taste.

Step 4: Use a spoon to pour the milk into the coffee cup, preventing the froth from going into the cup.

Step 5: Stir the contents of the cup.

Step 6: Use a spoon to place froth over the contents of the cup.
Step 7: (Optional) Sprinkle cinnamon and/or maple sugar over the froth.
