Mermaid Magnets – Easy DIY Glass Bead Magnets
Making Mermaid Magnets is so much fun! Such a great craft to do with kids and they make cute gifts as well!

A few weeks back I shared with you Quick and Easy Mermaid Tile Coasters I made for my daughters.
As we were putting away the left over scrapbook paper, my youngest daughter said it would be fun to make another mermaid craft with the left over paper.
We started brainstorming together and came up with the idea of making Mermaid Magnets with glass beads.
Emanuelle started working right away on the mermaid tail template.
Her first attempt at drawing the tail was perfect. She loves to draw, and I must say like her sister.. she’s really good.
With the mermaid tail template in hand, we started working on the magnets.

Supplies:
- Scrapbook paper
- Mermaid Tail Template
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Mod Podge
- Paint brush
- Clear glass beads
- Hot glue gun
- Magnets

Instructions:
Step 1: Start by drawing a mermaid tail onto a piece of paper. We made sure the tail would be the perfect size to go with the glass beads.

Step 2: Cut out the tail with scissors.

Step 3: Trace the mermaid tail onto the back of the scrapbook paper.
You can reverse the mermaid tail on some of the paper so that the mermaid tails point in different directions.
Once the tails are traced, cut them out with scissors.

Step 4: Time to cut out circles of scrapbook paper for the glass beads.
We had cute Valentine paper with glitter that we thought would compliment the tails, so we used that.
Trace the glass beads onto the paper of the scrapbook paper you are using and cut out the circles with scissors.

Step 5: Apply Mod Podge with a paint brush onto the back of the glass beads.
Place the circle scrapbook paper over it immediately and press. It takes a few seconds to really stick, so press and wait a little.

Step 6: Once the Mod Podge on the glass beads has dried, apply Mod Podge onto the top portion of the mermaid tails, and attach it onto the back of the glass beads.
Allow it to dry before proceeding to the next step.

Step 7: Now time to transform it into a magnet!
To attach the magnet onto the glass bead, apply hot glue onto the back of the glass beads, and place a magnet over the hot glue.

Note: It takes a few hours for the Mod Podge to completely dry between the paper and the glass beads. Once it’s completely dry, you’ll be able to see the paper through the glass.
And voilà, you have….

Aren’t the mermaid magnets so cute? Both my daughters have hung cookie sheets in their bedrooms in order to use the magnets to hang memos and drawings they have made.
Let me know if you make some, I’d love to see how yours turned out!
Have a FABULOUS day!
