Being sick is no fun, especially on vacation!
When you go vacation the only thing you want is to have a great time. You want to enjoy your vacation as much as possible, relax, and create beautiful memories. The last thing you want is for someone to get sick during your stay. Wouldn’t that be horrible? Not being able to enjoy your well-earned vacation time.

We love going on vacation down south. We love the relaxing feeling we get when we are there, we love not having to worry about where we will eat, where we will go, etc… It’s our dream vacation. The first time we went was in 2008. We went to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. We actually got married during that very trip. MAGICAL! Our second trip down south was to Cuba in 2011. Unfortunately this happened:
Being sick is no fun, especially on vacation!

These are not sleeping kids, these are sick kids. Yep, not cool at all! Especially not cool when you aren’t home. I find you get even more stressed out because you know you aren’t near your family doctor.
Gabrielle was the one who started not feeling well first. She didn’t eat, and would constantly go to the bathroom. She didn’t look well. She would pass out everywhere, she even fell asleep on the chairs in the restaurant. She felt ill for about two days. Then it was Emanuelle’s turn, however she had it worse. She was feverish, and not only did she go to the bathroom a lot, she would vomit too. We actually carried around a red pail (It was supposed to be used to build sand castle, not collect puke!) every we went with her, just in case.
We were careful what we fed them, drank a lot of bottled water, we avoided crushed ice, and made sure they ate healthy food. Eventually they got better, but still… it feels like they missed out on a couple of days of what should have been absolutely fun for them… for us. However, once they felt better., they were able to enjoy themselves, and so did we.

Look at those smiles! You have no idea how revealed we felt when they finally became themselves again. We were looking forward to this trip so much.

I absolutely LOVE this photo of Emanuelle dancing on the beach. They played music on the beach during the mornings. It reminds me that we did end up enjoying ourselves even with the sick kids.

Towards the end of the trip, Sébastien and I started feeling ill as well. Sébastien felt off the day before we left, whereas I started feeling ill the day we were leaving. Ughhh… not cool. We made it home, however I felt off for about 2 weeks! No joke! Everything I ate went through me, I eventually went and saw the doctor and he said I needed probiotics to help my gut. Which I took, and after a couple of days… my stomach started settling. Thank goodness!!
Next time we go on vacation, we are bringing probiotics with us and probiotic powder for the girls.. I’m sure it will help us out greatly! I think I will also bring everyone their ND Shakes to make sure our systems stay balance (thanks for the suggestion Mommy Kat and Kids!)
By the way, if you are going on vacation soon with your kids, I recommend you read Travel? Baby? Yes you can! from Orange Naturals. There’s A LOT of useful information. I sure wish I would have known all that before we left on our trip!

Oh no! That is terrible that everyone was sick at one point. Punta Cana is beautiful. I went there with my parents when I was in high school and loved it.
I know… it wasn’t fun at all. Luckily we’ve been to Punta Cana twice and were never sick,…. so far just in Cuba.
I hear you sista. I have been there with sick kids and it is no fun. On another note, I love your pictures. Amazing
Thanks!! :)
I agree! Probiotic powder is perfect for arming your stomach for foreign flavours! I love the idea of taking ND shakes with you! Those puppies are nutrition at its best!
Soooooo true!! I’m actually enjoying a ND shake as I write this. haha
Oh no! I hate, hate, hate being sick on vacation. It is so easy to pick up a bug even when you are super careful.
It’s the worse for sure!
I have travelled a fair bit and I recall one trip to DR when I was super sick just after our honeymoon week we extended the stay for a week and I was adventuresome eating seafood and such in DR. That was not cool. I was very ill then for two days – I even had to see the resort doctor. UGH.
Oh my goodness!!! I soooooo feel for you! I’ve been to DR twice and we haven’t been sick. The only time we got sick was in Cuba.
I love the new look Christine!
It’s not fun to be sick on vacation at all, I was pregnant both times I went to Hawaii and ugh…
The wonderful thing about children is that they are so resilient. Playing while not feeling the best, if it was me I would be curled up in the hotel bed. Beautiful photos.
Oh Hawaii…. so dreamy!! Being pregnant on vacation isn’t easy sometimes.. that’s for sure!
You’re right about kids… they are way more resilient than we are.
hehe Thanks! I love taking photos of my kiddies. :)
