Traveling to the US – Secret Beach – #TELUS
We recently went on a family vacation to Kennebunkport in Maine. We knew we wanted a beach vacation and we didn’t want to travel too far. Going to Maine was an easy decision. We visited Kennebunkport 12 years ago, before we had kids, and we loved it. It’s about a 5 hour drive, which means we could enjoy the beach on the very first day. We all LOVE the beach!

When traveling, you still want to be able to stay connected even if you are on ”vacation”. I think it’s important to have in case of emergencies, check maps, read up on your current location, etc… And it comes in very useful when you have a social daughter like Gabrielle. We visited the cutest little shop in Kennebunkport (wish I remembered the name!). The owner was sweet and Gabrielle had a blast chatting with her about sand-dollars. Gabrielle explained how she was on the lookout for sand-dollars. We visited many beaches and had yet to find any. The lady explained to Gabrielle that the beaches we were going to, don’t usually have sand-dollars, but that she knew a private beach (now open to the public) that we would be bound to find some. She said that not many people knew that it was now open to the public, so the beach is still very quiet. Apparently this beach also has sinking sand, something we have never seen. She gave us the name of the beach and the road that it was on. Talk about a nice lady! We took out the mobile phone, typed in the info into Google Maps, and off we went.. on the hunt for a ‘‘secret’’ beach! It was so easy to find with the phone guiding us to the beach.

Talk about the most beautiful place! The road leading up to the beach was breathtaking, so was the scenery! The path leading up to the beach was a beautiful sand path with wild rose bushes guiding us to the beach. We had the beach to ourselves! No one in sight. Just our little family and this gem of a beach. The girls instantly found pieces of sand-dollars. They didn’t find any whole ones, but the lady had told Gabrielle that finding whole sand-dollars can take a long time. We did find the spot on the beach that has sinking sand, so cool!

I’m so thankful that Gabrielle took the time to talk to the shop owner and that we had a cellphone with us. Without both of these, we would never have found this beautiful place!

P.S. I’ll share more photos of our vacation soon, I have too much for just one post! :)
Have a GREAT day!!

Disclosure: TELUS kindly sent me a mobile phone to try out. The opinions in this post are 100% my own.

ooo Salt Water Taffy! Love that stuff! When I was a kid we used to fly up to New Jersey and spend time at Point Pleasant Beach. Of course, we also had to drive down to Atlantic City to see our cousins on Dad’s side. Whether or not Dad went depended on whether or not the Governor called a Special Session of the Texas Legislature, if he did, then Dad had to work. I kind of think he liked having the house to himself for a couple of weeks, but of course he was glad to see Mom when we got back… I’m sure he was glad to see the rest of us too.
As for secret beaches, I’m afraid not, I don’t like swimming in the area lakes, and they are so far down right now because of the drought I’m sure there are new ones showing up daily! I’m also not really into swimming in the Gulf, but I’ve only ever been to Galveston, if I went to Padre Island it might be different.
Finally, what exactly is sinking sand? Is that the picture with the footprints?
Looks like you had a lovely trip! Reminds me I need to book some travel in my life very soon and now I will keep your tips for my mobile usage in thought :)
Wow Maine looks beautiful. That’s good to know about Telus, we just left out phones in our truck at the airport when we went to Hawaii but next time I will want to bring them.
love those photos, you can’t beat a beach vacation! it would be nice to use our cell in the US we usually only use them when wifi is available
I really love the family picture and I have never ever been to this place. It looks appealing. Also hello that salt water taffy has my name on it.
This post brought back so many memories for me! I went to Kennebunkport with my family when I was little. We had a great trip! The Bush family was on vacation there at the time (they have a vacation home there) and they were flying in so there was a lot of action there that week.
When I travel to the US I always try to use wifi but it does make it difficult if I need to use my map!
