Cool things to know about mobile phones – #TELUS #HTCOne

As lots of you know, I didn’t own a mobile phone before TELUS kindly sent me one to try out back in September. I’ve learned a lot since September. I’ve learned that you can have access to everything at all times, and that people have access to you at all times. Which means you need to know when you’ve been connected long enough and turn it off… or you’ll get comments like “Mom, can you put the cell phone away please and watch the movie with us.” OUPS!! That’s the only down side, I have found, from having a mobile device.

I’ve shared with you all the things I love about having a cell phone; like being able to share photos instantly, being able to check my emails, voice typing, etc… However, I did discover other things that I think are SUPER COOL!

HTC One - Mobile Phone - TELUS

Cool things about mobile phones!

Video Recording
Video recording at your finger tips allows you to capture special moments anytime, anywhere! The HTC One has 1080p Full HD video recording with HDR Video, which makes it an AMAZING video recording “machine”! This feature came in really handy this winter when I was often at the arena (skating rink) with my daughters. I went about 3 times with Gabrielle’s school and probably 10 times with Emanuelle’s daycare. Sébastien doesn’t work from home, so he sometimes misses out on special moments. Luckily, with the mobile phone I was able to capture on video Emanuelle learning how to skate and Gabrielle’s improvement!

The video recording also came in very handy for recording my daughters’ dance classes. Emanuelle missed a few dance classes because she was sick.  Luckily I had recorded her dances, so she’s able to practice from home.  The dance recital is at the end of the month! We are all very excited!

Mobile Network Sharing
Did you know that the HTC One has a mobile network sharing feature? I was really excited when I saw that it did! My father had heart surgery almost two months ago. Before he went into surgery we wanted to show him all the words of encouragements he had received on Facebook and via Email. We wanted him to know that he had lots of people thinking of him! The internet was not working at the hospital, so he was unable to log on to the network with his tablet. That’s when I remembered the mobile network sharing on the HTC One!!  I turned on the Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot, it gave me a password. I went onto my father’s tablet, clicked on Wi-Fi and we could see the mobile phone on it!! I clicked on the connection, entered the password and voilà… my Dad was connected! It meant a lot to him (and to us) that he was able to see all the wonderful messages of encouragement he had received. (I’m very happy to tell you that he’s recovering very well!!!)

I’ve been with a mobile phone since September.. and guess what?! I still haven’t mastered thumb typing!! haha How long does it take? Or perhaps I’ll never be able to do it! I still use one hand and my fingers to type! haha I wonder if it’s because I use voice typing too much? haha

What are your favorite cool things about your mobile phone?
Have a GREAT day!!

  1. I think you need to have the phone “landscape” to thumb type. I’ve had a mobile for about 13 years, though with texting only about 7. I was talking with a young lady who is in her 30’s and she can’t “thumb” type either until I pointed out the advantage of landscape with the larger keyboard. Personally, I hate texting, I’d rather talk to people, guess that shows my age of 60.

  2. That is one of my favourite things about cellphones too! I look back at my first son and my third child. The photos and vidoes increase dramatically thanks to my cell phone! Telus is an awesome company!

  3. My favourite things are very similar to yours – love the ability to capture video and take photos and share instantly! It’s funny because I rarely use mine to actually make phone calls…go figure!

  4. wow I can only say wow . I had had a smart phone some time ago and opted to go with a smaller prepaid phone, but then!!!! Verizon snuck in and grabbed me with their new smart phone and I haven’t looked back ..the photos are great the speech type is great the type ahum by thumbs is great and the speaker phone is wonderful very clear and makes many things happen at once as you talk and complete the addressed chore at the same time. I like the ability to put a scale watch on data and data is free as long as I’m in Wi-Fi distance. O my goodness it has much more to offer as they all do! and because I am “75” doesn’t mean you kids get all the fun unah not any more look out techy world I’m HERE and IM staying up with you. : )
