How to encourage kids to brush their teeth – #SonicareSmile

For kids, brushing their teeth is not an activity that comes naturally. You have to keep reminding them every single day even if you explain to them the importance of this habit. It’s a boring moment that often, they choose to forget.

Find a trigger for their teeth brushing time

We have two specific moments in a day that we use as triggers to help remind our kids to brush their teeth. Those triggers are easier to use during the week, but with a little bit of discipline, they can also be used during the weekend.

Our first trigger is right after breakfast. In the morning, when they go to school, it’s easy to use the routine, get up, get dressed, eat breakfast and brush your teeth before the school bus arrives.

Our second trigger is right before going to bed. This one is even easier than the morning one. When the time to go to bed arrives, it’s time for pajamas and teeth brushing. This one is pretty hard to miss.

Get them a cool toothbrush – Philips Sonicare for Kids

We’ve always used a conventional toothbrush. When you have young kids, it’s not that obvious to them that they should take the time to brush every single tooth carefully. They get bored.

We introduced Philips Sonicare for Kids toothbrush in our household, we are counting on it to make teeth brushing time fun. It’s easier to remind them to do something that is fun and the Sonicare toothbrush makes this time enjoyable. As we were unpacking them, the kids were more than ready to give it a try.

They loved that they were able to customize the toothbrush with stickers! Where as we love that it comes with a KidTimer and KidPacer. The KidTimer is to help encourage kids to brush their teeth for the dentist recommended amount of time. The KidPacer is to help kids to brush all areas of their mouth!

Other great things about Sonicare for Kids:
– More than 500 brush strokes per second.
– Removes 75% more plaque than a manual toothbrush in hard to reach areas.
– Ultra-soft brush heads designed to gently clean and protect teeth.
– Encourages healthy oral care.

Brush your teeth with your kids

Take it a step further and brush your teeth with them. It’s not innate for them to brush their teeth regularly. It’s a habit that takes time to acquire. While they will be brushing their teeth with Sonicare for Kids, we’ll be brushing with Sonicare DiamondClean!

  1. Great tips! We do the before-bed routine and they often remind ME that they need to do that – because it puts off bedtime just a bit, I think. :) We have cool toothbrushes too and occasionally also brush with them. Thanks for sharing!
