Learn how to make felt Christmas stocking ornaments with this easy to follow step by step tutorial. These adorable DIY Christmas Stockings will add a festive touch to your Christmas tree.
As you already know, I love making felt Christmas ornaments. They are quick and easy to make and you don’t need many craft supplies to make them.
I realized the other day that I hadn’t made felt Christmas ornaments since I made the Santa Boots Felt Christmas Ornaments.
So I decided I needed to make new ones this year. I figured little red stockings with white fur cuffs would be the perfect addition.
Do you want to learn how to make these adorable stockings too? Great, I made a free stocking pattern for you to use!
How to make Felt Christmas Stocking Ornaments
Supplies:
- Felt Christmas Stocking Ornaments Free template
- Red felt
- White faux fur
- Red ribbon
- Polyester filling
Tools:
- Printer
- Scissors
- Sewing clips
- Pins
- Hot glue glue or fabric glue
Instructions:
Step 1: Print out the DIY Christmas stocking pattern.
Step 2: Cut out the pattern pieces.
Step 3: Clip together two pieces of red felt.
Step 4: Pin the stocking shape pattern piece onto the red felt.
Step 5: Cut out the stocking, revealing two stocking shapes (front of the stocking and back of the stocking).
Step 6: Working in sections, apply glue around the contour (not the top though) of the stocking pieces and attach them together.
Step 7: Stuff the filling inside the stocking.
Step 8: Pin the cuff onto the faux fur. If you want the edge of the cuff to be extra fuzzy, place the template at the top of the roll of fur.
P.S. You can also use white felt if you don’t have white faux fur.
Step 9: Cut out the cuff.
Step 10: Apply glue on the edges of the cuff and attach it to the top of the stocking.
Step 11: Cut a piece of red ribbon approx. 8 inches long.
Step 12: Fold the ribbon in two and hot glue it inside the top part of the Christmas stocking ornament.
Voilà, you have yourself a felt Christmas stocking ornament!
DIY Christmas Stockings Ornaments
Aren’t these felt stocking ornaments super cute? I absolutely love the punch of red!
You can easily use different colors if you’d like! To give you an idea, check out these Elf Boots Ornaments and these Wool Socks Felt Christmas Ornaments.
My oldest daughter has suggested that I make a garland with them. I think that’s a fun idea! Maybe something like this beautiful DIY Wool Felt Christmas Tree Garland.
You can easily make these Christmas stockings bigger by blowing up the printable. If they are a little bigger, they could easily be used as stocking advent bags or little treat stockings for an DIY advent calendar. I would probably not use hot glue but more of a blanket stitch or running stitch like I used for these vintage style felt Christmas ornaments.
I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial!
