Learn how to transform light bulbs into Christmas ornaments. These light bulb Christmas ornaments take little time to make and are a great way to reuse old light bulbs. To make these ornaments you only need greenery and wire.

A few years ago we made an outdoor Christmas countdown marquee sign, actually 6 years ago to be exact. Since it’s been a few years, last year some of the light bulbs starting burning out.
I actually had to check on Google for the correct term, maybe I should be saying the light bulbs are blowing out. hehe Anyways, I’m sure you know what I mean, some light bulbs are no longer working.
Instead of disposing of them, I have been keeping them knowing I could transform them into something. I transformed the light bulbs into Light Bulb Ornaments!
How to make Light Bulb Christmas Ornaments
Supplies:
- Plastic light bulbs that no longer work
- Decorative greenery
- Wire
Tools:
- Ruler
- Wire cutters
- Hot glue
- Pencil

Step 1: Cut the wire at 18″ long using wire cutters.

Step 2: Center the wire over the cap of the light bulb and wrap part of it around the cap.

Step 3: Twist the wire tight around the cap.

Step 4: Straighten the wire upwards.

Step 5: Twist the two ends of the wire together about 3 times leaving about 1.5″ – 2″ on each end.

Step 6: Twirl each end on a pencil.
It’s the same technique I used on the deer wood slice ornaments, it’s a cute way to add a little cuteness to the wire.

Step 7: Cut pieces of decorative greenery using wire cutters.
You’ll notice that the greenery the left overs from the glass mounted Christmas countdown.

Step 8: Use hot glue to attach the greenery onto the light bulbs.

Since I had 4 light bulbs to work with, I made four ornaments.

DIY Light Bulb Christmas Ornaments

I really love how they turned out! I can’t wait for more of the lights to blow out so that I can make more. Don’t worry, the Christmas countdown is still well lit, I have been replacing the bulbs. hehe

These are adorable. I have been saving light bulbs for ages thinking I will do something with them. My kitchen chandelier light bulbs all burned out with 2 months. I may paint the frosted ones with Modge Podge and sprinkle them with glitter, then add the greenery. I think the chance of me painting Santa faces and beards--successfully--is pretty slim!
