How to make a Christmas Countdown

Before we start going through the Christmas Countdown Collection. How about we discuss how to make a Christmas Countdown.

To make a Christmas Countdown, you have to determine where you want to put it, how big you want it to be, and how you want to count down the days.

Where to put a Christmas Countdown

Christmas countdowns are fun to have in an area where it can stand out. A place where it will be the main focus. It can be a wall, door, window, outside, etc…

For example, as I’m sitting in my living room, I just looked up down the hallway I see Gabrielle’s door. The perfect location for a door Christmas countdown. UPDATE: I made a fabric advent calendar to hang on the door.

Once the location has been determined, time to decide how big to make it.

How big to make a Christmas Countdown

Measure the area where it will be. I always like mine big, so that I can enjoy it from whatever distance I’m standing.

With approximate measurement in mind, start thinking about how you’d like to countdown the days to Christmas.

How to countdown to Christmas

Questions to ask yourself to determine what time of countdown to make.

Do you want to change numbers? Do you want to take things out of bags like treats or things to decorate the Christmas tree? Do you want to add Xs to the numbers as you countdown? Maybe you’d like to move an item down to the next day until it reaches Christmas Day. Maybe you’d rather write the numbers and erase them to change the number the following day.

  • Change numbers
  • Treats or decorations in bags
  • X the numbers – strike the numbers
  • Move an item down until it reaches Christmas Day
  • Write and erase numbers

As you can see, there are many ways to countdown. To help you decide, you can ask your family members what they would prefer. Maybe they have other fun ideas too.

Ready to see some inspiration to help you decide which countdown is perfect for you?

The very first Christmas Countdown we made was actually a wall mounted advent calendar.

Instead of the tradition chocolate advent calendar you buy in stores, this Advent Calendar can be used every single year.

And the best part? You choose what you want to put inside, it can be chocolates, makeup, jewelry, quotes, various things,… Possibilities are endless.
