It’s December 1st, which means it’s officially time to start counting down the days until Christmas! How better to count down than to build or craft a Christmas Countdown for your family to use every year! Here’s a fun DIY Christmas Countdown Collection that I’m sure will inspire you!
How to make a Christmas Countdown
Before we start going through the Christmas Countdown Collection. How about we discuss how to make a Christmas Countdown.
To make a Christmas Countdown, you have to determine where you want to put it, how big you want it to be, and how you want to count down the days.
Where to put a Christmas Countdown
Christmas countdowns are fun to have in an area where it can stand out. A place where it will be the main focus. It can be a wall, door, window, outside, etc…
For example, as I’m sitting in my living room, I just looked up down the hallway I see Gabrielle’s door. The perfect location for a door Christmas countdown. UPDATE: I made a fabric advent calendar to hang on the door.
Once the location has been determined, time to decide how big to make it.
How big to make a Christmas Countdown
Measure the area where it will be. I always like mine big, so that I can enjoy it from whatever distance I’m standing.
With approximate measurement in mind, start thinking about how you’d like to countdown the days to Christmas.
How to countdown to Christmas
Questions to ask yourself to determine what time of countdown to make.
Do you want to change numbers? Do you want to take things out of bags like treats or things to decorate the Christmas tree? Do you want to add Xs to the numbers as you countdown? Maybe you’d like to move an item down to the next day until it reaches Christmas Day. Maybe you’d rather write the numbers and erase them to change the number the following day.
- Change numbers
- Treats or decorations in bags
- X the numbers – strike the numbers
- Move an item down until it reaches Christmas Day
- Write and erase numbers
As you can see, there are many ways to countdown. To help you decide, you can ask your family members what they would prefer. Maybe they have other fun ideas too.
Ready to see some inspiration to help you decide which countdown is perfect for you?
DIY Christmas Countdown Collection
Wall Mounted Advent Calendar
The very first Christmas Countdown we made was actually a wall mounted advent calendar.
We built it back in 2012. Goodness did we have FUN putting it together. My daughters love it as much as we do.
Instead of the tradition chocolate advent calendar you buy in stores, this Advent Calendar can be used every single year.
And the best part? You choose what you want to put inside, it can be chocolates, makeup, jewelry, quotes, various things,… Possibilities are endless.
Outdoor Christmas Countdown Marquee Sign
The next countdown we made was another really unique one! An AWESOME Outdoor Christmas Countdown Marquee Sign!
This guy is is AWESOME! haha We constantly have people drive by our place and slow down to check it out!
It was such a great DIY Christmas project to work on! Every single time I see it lit up… my heart lights up too! hehe I love it that much!
We love it so much that we added more numbers in order to start using it as of November 1st.
Glass Mounted Christmas Countdown
Another one of my favorite countdowns we put together was our Glass Mounted Christmas Countdown.
Since we had an old door that we liked to take out to decorate with, I figured why don’t we transform it into a Christmas decoration. The whole project was so fun to put together.
Mini Christmas Countdown
This year we made a cute little Mini Christmas Countdown. When I say we, I mean Emanuelle and her doll Cloe.
Yes, it’s a Mini Christmas Countdown Kids Craft! They had so much crafting it together!
It’s the perfect size to display on a kid’s dresser.
Christmas Countdown Ornament
We actually made a second countdown this year! Hey, when you love counting down the days until Christmas, you keep finding ways to count down. haha
This one though goes in the Christmas tree!

This year’s addition to my countdown collection is a Fabric Advent Calendar with pockets!
